  • I really enjoyed The Amish Spinster's Courtship. The story line as good and the store really closed.
    I recommend this book.
  • The Amish Spinster's Courtship by Emma Miller
An Amish courtship no one expected…
But is he too good to be true?
To prove she has a fun side, ultraserious Lovey Stutzman accepts her sister’s dare a buggy ride with Hickory Grove’s most handsome Amish bachelor. But what Lovey can’t accept is Marshall Byler’s claim that he fell in love with her at first sight. Now Marshall must defy everyone’s expectations—including his family’s—to prove his intentions once and for all
This Lovey Stutzman and Marshall Byler's story.
Marshall gasped as the strong taste of sour lemon filled his mouth and made his eyes water. He grimaced and began to choke just as the door swung open to reveal a young Amish woman in a green dress and white kapp. He tried to clear his throat and coughed.
“Atch,” she said, and clapped a hand over her mouth to suppress a giggle. “You weren’t supposed to drink that yet.” She held up a pint jar of raw sugar in one hand and a wooden spoon in the other. “I still need to add the sugar.”
“You’re telling me,” Marshall replied. Rather, he tried to reply, but his voice came out in a strangled croak and he began to cough again.
She pointed at him with her spoon and grimaced. “Sorry. Though my mam did teach me to make lemonade so you could taste the lemons.”
Marshall Byler stepped into the shade of the concrete block dairy barn that housed the new Miller harness shop and breathed a sigh of relief. The July sun was hot and the day was muggy, just what one would expect for midsummer in Kent County and sure to make the corn grow. He’d been cultivating his corn in his east field when a groundhog had startled Toby, the younger of his two horses, and he’d spooked.
Marshall had gotten the horses calmed down before they tore up more than a small portion of his crop. However, somewhere in the frantic shying of the team, Toby’s britchen strap, a section of harness that kept the horse from getting tangled in the traces, snapped. Marshall didn’t need the harness immediately, but he decided to go ahead and drop it off for repair right away, so it would be ready when he needed it again.
Miller’s Harness Shop would save him time because it was closer to his farm than the Troyer Harness Shop, which he usually frequented. And he also liked the idea of giving his business to the new place; there was enough leatherwork to be done in Hickory Grove to support both the Troyer and the Miller families. Besides, the shop was owned by his new friend Will’s father and it seemed only right to go there.

  • “The Amish Spinster’s Courtship” by Emma Miller tells the story of an Amish woman named Lovage and how she finds a spouse. I liked the idea that Lovage is not a cute young woman flirting with Amish young hunks. Lovage is a mature lady who is quite happy to be on her own, assisting in her family’s business and helping manage a large blended family. The novel details the progress of her newly-developing relationship with a mature Amish man. They are not without their trials and heartaches, but manage to work through them together and learn a lot about themselves and each other in the process.

I read a lot of novels about Amish people, and this was a standout. The characters are well-developed and multidimensional, portrayed honestly and like real people with problems and questions. The large Amish family to which Lovage belongs is interesting in their own right, and present an intriguing subplot to the story of Lovage. This book ranks right up there as one of my favorites. I am looking forward to reading more novels by Emma Miller.

I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
  • Laugh out loud delightful are the first words that come to mind about this book.
A man who knows his mind, and a young Amish woman who has low self-esteem, and we get to see who wins!
The author has given us a strong woman who loves her family, and being her mother’s oldest has been given a lot of responsibilities through the years, including getting a home ready for sale in a different state.
The we have a young man given the responsibility of raising his younger brother and caring for his grandmother.
Has fate put them together, or has God put this on their hearts? We get a front seat and this quickly became a page turner for me, and a sense of loss once the last page was there.

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.
  • Who is Marshall Byler and where is he from? Who are Lovage, Ginger, Bay, Tarragon, and Rosemary? Who is Benjamin? I really like Marshall!!! When Marshall keeps going back to Benjamin's harness shop to check on his item that he dropped off for repairs, what happens? Why does Loveage ride with him after a weekday ballgame at the Bishop's house? Who is Jesse and why is he in the buggy as well? As the story progresses, many interesting things happen. You'll have to see what Ginger does that nearly ruins everything. Enjoy the story! I did!!!

  • A sweet story about a young Amish woman, Lovey with very low self esteem and her want-a-be suiter, Marshall. This story is funny at times because Marshall is so persistent and Lovey does not take him serious. Lovey has a hard time believing that the most handsome man is attracted to her. It's unusual for courtship to be so open in most Amish communities so this story was different in that aspect. This is the first in a new series and community. Looking forward to the next story. Recommended!
  • A well written inspirational romance. Great plot. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my digital arc. This is my unbiased review.
